Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd…
The days are longer, the air is warmer, and the Colorado sun is out to stay. Spring is finally here, which means baseball season is as well! Make sure you’re ready for the pre- during- and post-game festivities with just the right look.
Whether you’ve actually got tickets to attend the ballgame, or you’re simply going to enjoy bopping around in celebration of the season’s start, thinking ahead is necessary to ensure you’re prepared for the day in full and all it may entail. Read on for everything you’ll need to get you stylishly stretching through that seventh inning and beyond. See what I did there? None of you broads will be ‘striking out’ when it comes to your style game for America’s favorite past-time.
The Essentials – Your ‘Base’ Outfit
You’re in it for the long haul–meaning, starting with the purple festive fun well before noon, and going all day into the evening, and perhaps beyond. As we all know, CO weather can be unpredictable, so, think layers when putting together your outfit ‘foundation’.
If you’re a loyal Rockies broad, you’re excited to bring out the Rockies attire that has been tucked away for the past seven months. Whether that be a jersey or cute flowy tank, you’re go-to garb is ready to rock. Or maybe this is your year to really get on board with our boys of summer, and you want to sport something new. Fabulous.
A light flowy tank is always a great option for baseball season.
A jersey-style tank gives a bit more baseball street cred. Also, super cute.
And if you’re not a Rockies superfan (yet anyway), and you’re not looking to show off all the team spirit, I’ve got you covered. You can still sport that baseball look, yet in a more subtle way. Throw on a classic baseball tee. This shows enough of a baseball side of you, and you can wear this classic style for so many other things, too!
A classic baseball tee shows your sporty side for the game.
Or, for a cute and light feel, another option would be to toss on a simple t-shirt dress. You’ll be able to easily add in some Rockie’s ‘spirit’ if you choose, which we’ll cover in a bit.
A t-shirt dress is a simple, cool and a bit more feminine option.
Whatever way you decide to go with your base top, just be sure to throw on a zip-up hoodie sweatshirt or loose boyfriend cardigan for those cooler timeframes throughout the day. Then when you’re at the sun’s mercy and warming up, remove that piece and do a quick tie around your waist, which keeps that layered look and also keeps your hands free from holding anything extra.
Okay, now what to wear on the bottom? As a go-to, throw on your fav pair of jeans. If the day warms up, you can always roll a couple cuffs to show off and give your ankles a little air. If the forecast is showing some pretty warm temps, step into a pair of cutoff jean shorts.
It’s going to be a full day, and you’ll likely be on your feet and walking around for most of it. As excited as we are to start flip-flopping around, you will be most comfortable in a pair of sneakers. There are definitely some great shoe options out there that will only add another level of stylish to your ensemble. A couple go-tos are the classic Converse chucks or a pair of slip-on Vans.
Classic sneakers in white. Try a different color, too!
Slip into some hip and easy skater shoes.
The final piece to your Opening Day outfit ‘foundation’ is your bag. You will want to avoid carrying around a ginormous tote or shoulder bag, as it will only get in the way. And what could you possibly need all that bag space for anyway?! More importantly, you’ll want your hands free for the essentials of game day… Cold beer anyone? Or hey, handsome dude over there, game of catch in the parking lot? Stick to something small that is essentially a part of you throughout the day. Either a crossbody bag or belt bag (formerly known as the ‘fanny pack’…yep) is the perfect solution, and not to mention a great accessory piece for your overall outfit.
Toss that crossbody bag over your shoulder and you’re good to go.
A belt-bag gives that stylish add-on, and you’ll barely know it’s there.
The Extras, aka that ‘Rockies Flare’
You’ve got your game-day outfit set, but what about that Rockies flare?! If you’re a hardcore baseball gal, you’re already donning the Rockies jersey or purple baseball tee to show your team spirit, as noted above. However, if you’re simply a fan of the season and your favorite part of the whole baseball game ordeal is the social aspect, you may not have (or want) the goods that scream Rockies superfan.
The always simple solution is the accentuating string of beads, useful for many occasions. Throw a few strands of purple over your head and you’ve got a pop of the Rockies just like that.
If your a hat kind of girl, find something fun that stands out. Whether it be a Rockies baseball cap or a hip trucker hat, top off your outfit with a piece that shows you mean business. Bonus, your hat doubles as a functional piece, keeping your head protected and eyes shaded from that hot summertime sun.
Let your purple flare shine with a glitter-bombed hat.
Another way to add in a splash of purple is by repurposing the ol’ bandana you had tucked away in your dresser drawer. Say hello to your newest Rockies accessory. You can create your very own statement bracelet. Simply fold in half and roll into a long rectangle band, wrap around your wrist and tie on top. Pair with a delicate gold or silver bracelet to add a more feminine vibe.
DIY bandana bracelet goodness!
That should be everything you need to take you through Opening Day, and beyond. Carry these tips with you throughout the baseball season, all summer long, to ensure your ballgame style is on point and you’re properly prepped for everything each game day entails. Say it with me, ladies, “LET’S PLAY BALL!”
